Our Fiji trip offers a unique experience. This beautiful group of South Pacific Islands has some of the warmest, friendliest people. World Horizons has a special relationship with the village and the tribal chief of Nakora Kula. You will live in the coastal village at the northernmost point of the beautiful island of Viti Levu, at the personal invitation of the Chief. Nakora Kula is located in the region known as RakiRaki. The scenery is stunning along the Kings Road which winds its way down from the Dama past Viti Levu Bay and to the beautiful region of RakiRaki. The climate is dry in this area which makes it suitable for the production of sugar cane. Experience life in a simple, tribal village and know that your efforts will be enthusiastically received. About 2km from the village is the town of Vaileka. Here there is a market, a supermarket, taxi stands, a bus station, banks and cafés, at least one with internet access.
WHI participants may have the opportunity to volunteer with the local Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, a Coral Preservation Project, possibly volunteering in a local school assisting teachers with arts and crafts, sports, dancing or singing and possibly a painting or clean-up project in the school. In addition, you may be involved with small projects around the village under the supervision of the village chief.
"My journey to Nokoro Kula village will always be remembered as one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences of my life. We were embraced fully into the Fijian lifestyle by each person we encountered, and, as a result, our cultural immersion was most profound. My fellow travelers and our group leaders were among the most amazing people I have ever had the privilege to know, and these friends are sure to last a lifetime. ...I would go back to Fiji in a heartbeat." -- Kelly, California
"Thank you so much. Just so you know, I had an absolutely amazing experience in Fiji, I don't think it could have gone better. I've recommended World Horizons to many friends, a few have shown real interest and I hope they follow through. I'm certainly interested, as is Maya, in looking into a trip for next summer. I also wanted to let you know I'd be very happy to be reference for other students thinking of traveling to Fiji next summer, I think anyone who has the opportunity to go should and I'd love to share with someone how fantastic the trip is. Also, I never got the chance to tell you how amazing Sarah and Dawn were, they both made amazing leaders.”." -- Liana, Florida
