World Horizons students live in the city of Palmares, a small city outside San Isidro del General. Palmares, meaning“"Palm Grove", got its name from the large number of royal palm trees which were present when it was settled. Situated in the foothills of the Aguacate Mountains, it is drained by the Mora, Azul, Fierro and Grande Rivers. The principal product for the region is coffee which is grown in large quantities. Here we will do a small repair or a painting project in a local school and also have time for sightseeing on some afternoons and the weekend.
WHI participants have time at the end of the day to play soccer (football) with the local children, experience the local shops and on the weekends may visit a volcano, ride a zip line through the rain forest or visit the beach.
"...It was honestly the most rewarding experience I"ve lived so far... I feel I've gained an abundance of knowledge, social skills and awareness. This was such a rich experience it's hard to put into words! Most definitely a ride that I cant wait to get back on! Next stop Ecuador!!" -- Sophie, London, UK
